March 2019 saw the release of brand new Scrimshire material. The first in six years, a collaboration with composer/producer/performer Emma-Jean Thackray.
‘Won’t Get Better’; is an energetic combination of jazz, garage and Afrobeat that gained radio support on BBC Radio 6 Music and 1Xtra alongside multiple spotify playlist spots and a swell of support worldwide.
Scrimshire has released three albums of experimental cinematic jazz, and electronic sounds since first signing to Wah Wah 45s in 2007. Following his debut ‘Along Came The Devil One Night’, his second album ‘The Hollow’ (2011) was a BBC 6 Music Album of the Week, with Gilles Peterson calling it “A late contender for album of the year”.
With a new album due in Summer 2019, Scrimshire's Albert's Favourites label, delivers two wildly different mixes of this single.
As well as DJing all over Europe and appearing on some killer festival line-ups for this summer, Rebecca Vasmant has been busy crafting an album of electronica infused jazz in her Glasgow studio. We're excited for what that will bring and couldn't resist asking her to bring her sound to this release. Keeping it very ambient and otherworldly, avoiding beats until the very last moment, while adding new horns and live instrumentation. It is laid back and beautiful.
Following an exceptional debut for Tiff's Joints, Hazards of Prophecy hits the synths and beats hard for this revision. Flipping the structure and making it nice and bleepy. Dance-floor business. Be sure to check out his recent Stamp The Wax mix too, warming up for his "We Out Here" appearance this summer.
