about

In October 2021 Scrimshire will release his 6th studio album Nothing Feels Like Everything.

The debut single I Hear You, I See You is the first taste of a project that continues his look outwards at an increasingly polarised world which fails to understand and resolve the physical and emotional violence enacted on marginalised people. A record threaded with strong lyrical content, Nothing Feels Like Everything also delivers a more instrumental and introverted work than previously heard from the multi-instrumentalist producer.

I Hear You, I See You, written in early spring 2021 was an effortless moment at the piano one rare sunny afternoon. Captured on a second take, missteps and all, Adam then sat by the keyboard as the sun went down and recorded through all the percussion parts, bounced the track and sent it north to inspirational saxophone-master Nat Birchall.

The two had spoken for over ten years about a collaboration, but in the odd scenario of a national lockdown, they finally made it happen. Birchall improvised, first time, his emotional response on soprano saxophone. The final step was to add vocals with long-time Scrimshire collaborator Faye Houston. Acknowledging those who have been denied voices, or places in our communities, who have feared to be themselves or who have tried to speak up and been ignored. The song, a secular prayer of sorts, asks for love, support and action in this lifetime.

Nothing Feels Like Everything brings together more collaborations including Cleveland Watkiss, Ursula Rucker, Jessica Lauren, Huw Marc Bennett, Miryam Solomon, Idris Rahman and Pie Eye Collective. Possibly his most complete work to date, the album acts almost as a counterpoint to the upbeat and soulful Believers Vol. 1, released in 2020, but builds further upon all of the warmth and emotional punch in his recent productions.
